We’ve noticed rotor bowing in our Siemens SST-600 steam turbine, particularly during cold starts. The bowing has led to vibration issues and efficiency losses over time. The problem seems to be more pronounced after extended shutdown periods.
Here’s what we’ve done so far:
Performed rotor alignment checks.
Adjusted startup procedures to reduce thermal stress.
Conducted borescope inspections to identify damage.
Despite these measures, we’re still seeing residual bowing that’s affecting performance. What other solutions have you implemented to address rotor bowing in Siemens steam turbines?
You might want to review your startup acceleration rates. Too aggressive acceleration during startup can exacerbate bowing. We adjusted our ramp rates and saw a noticeable improvement.
